Traveling with your dog
Traveling together is always a special highlight when living with a dog. Exploring new places together, experiencing adventures and spending time together creates an even closer bond as a human-dog team. However, there are also a few things to consider when traveling with a dog - from entry regulations and travel to the perfect accommodation with a dog. That's why we've put together some tips and the perfect vacation companions for you from Emmy & Pepe.
Where should the trip go?
There are so many beautiful places to discover with your dog. Perhaps you want to go hiking in the mountains? Or to the beach with your four-legged friend? The choice is almost limitless. When choosing your destination, you should not only keep your own needs in mind, but also those of your dog. Most four-legged friends are less likely to enjoy trips to crowded cities, whereas hiking or romping on the beach are more fun.
Those who are drawn to the north will find spectacular landscapes and fantastic hikes in Norway, for which both humans and dogs should have a certain level of fitness. The neighboring country of Sweden is a little more relaxed, but no less impressive. Particularly practical: In Sweden, Norway and Finland, the right of public access applies, which makes adventures in the wilderness easier. Under common law, you are allowed to pitch your tent in the middle of nature as long as you don't disturb anyone and don't harm nature.
The Nordic countries are also popular vacation destinations for traveling with a camper, as there are many beautiful pitches to explore the north. Equally impressive mountain landscapes await in the south. Hiking, relaxing and enjoying nature in Austria, Switzerland or perhaps South Tyrol? There's plenty to discover here, even with a dog!
Check entry requirements & special features on site
If you are planning a trip with a dog, you should find out about the entry regulations of the destination country in good time before departure. For entry into other EU countries, an EU pet passport is generally required. Animals that were first identified on or after July 3, 2011 must be chipped. If identified before this date, entry is also possible with a clearly legible tattoo. In addition, the dog must have a valid rabies vaccination; the first vaccination must have been given at least 21 days ago.
As some countries, such as Finland, also require treatment against tapeworms before entry, you should check the Internet for country-specific requirements. But there are also a number of things to consider and research before you travel. For example, you can find out in advance whether there are certain regulations regarding the use of a lead or muzzle so that you are well prepared for your vacation.
Particularly important for every dog owner: the health of the four-legged friend. Check whether certain vaccinations are recommended for the destination or whether you should take care of other protection. If you are traveling to the Mediterranean region, for example, some diseases transmitted by sandflies and ticks will be relevant. These include leishmaniasis, ehrlichiosis and heartworm. It is worth calling or visiting your trusted vet to clarify such issues and find out about additional vaccinations, medication or spot-ons.
Dog-friendly travel & accommodation
When traveling with a dog, it is of course also important to think about the journey and suitable accommodation.
I maintain: No dog person feels comfortable in an accommodation if their four-legged friend is noticeably unwelcome. Before you book accommodation, you should therefore always clarify whether the dog is allowed to stay with you without any problems, whether there are certain rules or whether you might have to pay a surcharge for the dog. On most booking portals - regardless of whether it's a vacation home, vacation apartment or hotel - you can filter directly for accommodation where dogs are allowed. It's also often worth taking a look at the reviews - you might find something there about dog-friendliness.
If you are traveling by train, ferry or other public transport, you should find out about the regulations for dogs before departure. Your four-legged friend may need a muzzle or a transport box.

Our Wau-to-go dog bag is simply always practical, whether at home or when traveling. There's plenty of room for a cell phone, keys or dog treats in the multiple pockets. The subdivision of the compartments allows you to separate your dog's must-haves from your own belongings. There is also space for poop bags at the back of the dog bag, which can be easily pulled out through an opening. You can also attach it either with a carabiner or a belt loop, or you can use the shoulder strap to hang the pet bag around your neck.
Dog bathrobe
Wau-Dry
Whether it's a hike through the rain, a trip to the lake or a nice day at the beach: Anyone who has ever had to transport a completely wet dog in the car or stop him from shaking himself right next to the white wall in someone else's accommodation will certainly appreciate a dog bathrobe. The Wau-Dry dog bathrobe is made from extremely absorbent bamboo fibers. This not only dries your four-legged friend much faster, but also protects the environment from wet and dirty dog marks. It not only looks stylish, but is also incredibly comfortable.
